Dr. Scott Poortinga

The Professional Side

Dr. Poortinga lives in Orange Park, FL, is a happy and committed husband, and hopes to start a family soon.

Dr. Poortinga is a general dentist who was born and raised in Ontario, Canada.  After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with honors at McMaster University, he earned his dental degree with honors at the prestigious University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry.  During his intensive training, he received numerous awards and distinctions, such as the Dr. Howard Rocket Preventive Scholarship, where only two students are recognized yearly for high academic and clinical achievement.  After receiving his dental degree, Dr. Poortinga pursued further surgical training and completed an Implant Continuum at the Implant Educators Academy.  He has also received multiple certifications in endodontic therapy and cosmetic dentistry.  Dr. Poortinga is also certified in Nitrous Oxide Sedation.

Dr. Poortinga is recognized by his community and fellow dentists as being approachable, compassionate, and having a strong work ethic.  He has served in several prominent positions in various organizations throughout his career, such as co-president of the Oral Health Total Health organization, which educates and advocates for equal access to dental care for those with special needs.  Dr. Poortinga has also been active in academic research and has had his research published in Spectrum Dental,  a leading dental research journal.  Dr. Poortinga joined Normandy Lake Dentistry in 2023 to establish himself in Clay County.

Dr. Poortinga is a Board Certified Dentist in Canada and the United States.  He is an active member of the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, Canadian Dental Association, as well as the Ontario Dental Association.
